Xenia Hockey Fans Wanted

The Dayton Bombers are hosting the city of Xenia on Friday, January 26 at 7:30 p.m. as they take on the Peoria Riverman. Tickets for Xenia residents will be discounted to $8.00 and a portion of all proceeds will be donated to United Way serving Greene County. Call the Bombers at 775-4747 for more information or to reserve tickets.

 

United Way at Work in Your Community

Three Hunger Forums were held recently in order to educate people who deal with the effects of hunger daily. Marilyn Sesler, Public Education Director for Ohio Hunger Task Force, shared local and state data on hunger-related issues and gave those in attendance ideas for dealing with local and state leaders who make decisions that can affect those who are hungry. The forums were hosted by United Way and were conducted in Greene, Montgomery and Preble counties.

 

Ambassadors Honored

2000 campaign Ambassadors and Fellows were honored Monday, December 11, at the Dayton Racquet Club. United Way campaign staff members shared humorous stories about each Ambassador and Fellow in attendance and presented them with a commemorative plaque. United Way wished to thank D.M. Vance Computer Services, Manpower, Sinclair Community College, Sue Koverman Consulting and The University of Dayton for sponsoring Ambassadors and Fellows.

 

Wish List Compiled

The Homeless Respite Care Program is preparing to open two new apartments to house homeless persons who can't go to a shelter because they or a family member have a contagious disease or because they are recuperating from an illness or medical procedure and need a quiet place to rest. In order to complete these apartments, donations of household items (kitchen utensils, small furniture, bed and bath accessories, etc) are needed. For a complete list of needed items or to make a donation, contact Kathleen Shanahan at 225-3097.

Flyer Soar to New Heights

University of Dayton's campaign representatives and student government officials presented United Way 2000 Campaign Chairman Mike McCurdy with a check for $10,000 at the January 11th basketball game against Temple. UD raised $3,500 more than last year. Mike in turn presented the UD Student Government with a United Way Award of Honor.

Target and United Way Spread Holiday Joy

Christmas came early for about 60 families who didn't have trees to decorate. Area Target stores donated their display trees and decorations to families identified by United Way.

Meet the 2001 Campaign Chairman

Eric Cluxton, the new President of KeyBank's Dayton District, will be serving as United Way's 2001 Campaign Chairman.

A 1981 Miami University graduate, Eric, his wife and three children have recently relocated to Dayton from Cleveland.

In addition to volunteering his time to United Way, Eric is active on several community boards including the Community Advisory Committee to Dayton Public Schools and the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce.

Eric's Co-Chair will be Fred Romine, Business Representative at Teamsters Local 957. Look for Fred in next month's Spirit.
