Press Release Philip Parker Receives Smith-Moore AwardMonday, March 26, 2001 - Dayton, OH - Over 25 years of community service has earned Philip Parker, President and CEO, Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, the first annual Smith-Moore Human Services Award, presented by United Way of the Greater Dayton Area. "I am very honored to be the first recipient of an award named after two men I admire and presented by an organization I support and value," said Parker. "I list community service as a hobby on my resume because I truly enjoy it and it is so important. I believe it is impossible to have a healthy community without a strong human service sector." "Phil's understanding of the relationship between economic development and human services is rare and his active leadership in both arenas has helped to make this a healthier community," said Craig Chancellor, President, United Way of the Greater Dayton Area. Chancellor cited Parker's work in spearheading local literacy initiatives and significant United Way involvement as two examples of his dedication to this community. American Red Cross, Kid's Voting and the Out-of-School Youth Task Forces are some of the other efforts Parker currently supports. Named in honor of Fred Smith and John Moore, past Chairmen of the Board, this singular award will be given annually to a local leader who has made a difference in the quality of life in the Miami Valley through volunteer involvement, commitment, and vision in the area of health and human services. |
