2000 Campaign Ends In Celebration

Campaign Chairman Mike McCurdy, Business Line Executive, Delphi Automotive Systems, and Co-Chairman Gary Hill, President, UAW Local 696, shared the campaign results with more than 300 United Way volunteers and contributors attending the Parade of Stars Campaign Victory Celebration at Sinclair Community College. So far, the campaign has raised $18,203,509, but several large companies and two private foundations have yet to be counted.

"Our United Way believes in setting and striving for stretch goals," McCurdy said, "We followed that strategy again this year, even though we knew going into this campaign that we had significant losses - well exceeding $100,000 - to replace." He cited the loss of more than 2,500 employees, including 891 United Way contributors, at Franciscan Medical Center as one of the key challenges to the campaign base of support.

Rich Hopkins, WHIO Radio, emceed the event and beneficiaries of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, United Rehabilitation Services, Senior Resource Center, Melissa Bess Day Care Center, and the American Cancer Society presented the awards.
