UAW-Delphi donation cloaks students in warmth

Thanks to the generosity of the United Auto Workers Local 696 and Delphi , some 365 coats and other winter apparel will keep Dayton Public Schools students warm and safe in the upcoming blustery months.

Representatives of UAW Local 696 and Delphi Needmore / Dayton Plant 3 and the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area will be on hand to present the coats to DPS at noon on Jan. 11 at the union headquarters, 1543 Alwildy Ave . The annual joint tradition was made possible by the local union and Delphi ; the coats, gloves and hats were purchased through a special fund and given to the United Way for donation to Dayton Public Schools.

“Daily school attendance is important for students to achieve academically . This donation will help many of our students remain warm and healthy through the cold winter months,” DPS Superintendent Percy Mack said. “We're grateful to the membership of UAW Local 696 and Delphi , as well as the United Way , who have been strong community partners.”
