Mike Peters to Serve as United Way 2002 Honorary Chair

Volunteers of the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area are hard at work drawing up plans for the 2002 Campaign, and Dayton Daily News political cartoonist Mike Peters has agreed to join the United Way team as Honorary Chair to help draw attention to the fundraising effort.

Peters will be the headlining act at United Way's Campaign Kick-off on September 5, 2002, at Jokers Comedy Café. Campaign Chair Ron Amos and Labor Chair Kenny DeLaney will announce the fundraising goal at the event. United Way President Marc R. Levy will serve as emcee.

"Mike Peters was our first choice for this year's Honorary Chair," Levy said. "Not only can he help raise awareness of the campaign, but he also sets a positive example by making his own personal leadership gift to this community through our local United Way."

Peters, a Pulitzer-prize winning political cartoonist and creator of the Mother Goose and Grimm comic strip, is syndicated in more than 300 newspapers and has appeared frequently in national publications and on national television.
