2001 Campaign Kicks Off at Fifth Third Field

Fifth Third Field was full of United Way supporters August 23rd for the 2001 United Way Campaign kick-off. The evening started with a press conference hosted by Mike Schmidt, Honorary Chairman and Eric Cluxton, 2001 Campaign Chair announcing the goal of $17.7 million from the top of the Dragons dugout.

"I am excited to be part of the 2001 United Way Campaign kickoff," said Schmidt. "I have seen the difference United Way makes, and look forward to helping my hometown community."

Heater, the Dragons mascot, and Uwie, were available for pictures, autographs and fun. United Way provided special entertainment on the plaza including a miniature golf contest courtesy of Young's Jersey Dairy and a baseball card machine sponsored by Saturn of Dayton.

"   Exceed the community's goal of $17.7 million
"   Increase donor participation to 75,000 donors
"   Increase donations directed to the Community Solutions Fund to $7.5 million
