How We Help

What Matters Most

Community Action Partnership Works to Increase Self-Sufficiency in Preble County

Transportation can be a challenge in rural areas.   So, the Community Action Partnership leases cars to those in need, for minimal monthly payments.

Chrissy is now able to get back and forth to not only her own cosmetology classes, but to important events in her daughters life.

“I was able to go to the last parent teacher conference and it was such a relief to not have to rely on friends for rides,” said Chrissy.

The loan of this car allows Chrissy to continue her education and save up money for a car of her own.

“It really helps me stand on my own two feet again.   It is a great comfort to know that I have my own transportation, especially if I need it in an emergency.   Before the Community Action Partnership leased me this car, I was imposing on friends and classmates for rides to and from work and school.   Now, I can work a more flexible schedule, be at school whenever I need to be and I am able to go to all of my daughters school activities.”

How to Give

Give to your local United Way

Partnering with United Way is the most effective way to create lasting community change. Throughout the year, United Ways where you work and live work to understand the broad needs of individual communities and to direct resources to best meet those needs. Many people give by participating in their United Way campaign through their companies. Others, who don't have a campaign at their company, give directly to the United Way in their community. To find more information about how you can contribute to the United Way in your community use our Local United Way search which will direct you to the United Way serving your community.

Start a workplace campaign at your company

United Way’s annual community campaign in the workplace is the most effective way to organize your company around helping to improve the community you work and live in. United Way in your community can help you plan and implement a campaign as we do in thousands of companies nationwide. If you're interested in finding more information about how you can start a United Way campaign at your company first start by locating your Local United Way to get in touch with campaign planners in your community.

Volunteer Your Time

Volunteering your time and skills to help your community can be an exciting and rewarding experience. Most Local United Ways operate or are affiliated with a Volunteer Center that can help you find ways to give back to your community by connecting you with ways to volunteer with local nonprofit organizations.
United Way of America has recently partnered with civic-minded web developers to create Volunteer Solutions (www.volunteersolutions.org), an online volunteer matching tool that is managed by local Volunteer Centers. Visit Volunteer Solutions to create a profile and begin finding ways to help locally.
