Director and Board Members sought for Board of Directors.  Must be able to deal with the public and have good organizational skills.  Volunteers will be expected to actively participate on one committee, actively support fundraising efforts, speak for the Board when authorized to do so and attend regularly scheduled meetings.  Director should be able to understand the financial statements presented in meetings and maintain lines of communication between Board, staff and clients.  Participation in recruiting capable new Board members is also expected.  Board Members are needed to assist with outreach, public relations and more.  This position will be responsible for the development, evaluation and approval of the policies and procedures for the agency.

Board member sought with skills in one or more areas that is relevant to the corporation's business.  These include administration, finance, personnel, program development, community and public relations.  Board of Trustees is expected to establish procedures to ensure overall supervision of agency functions, approve submission of grant applications, monitor program goal accomplishment and compliance, approve personnel policies and develop methods to ensure the awareness of agency programs and activities.  Board will also monitor expenditures and review audits and financial reports, as well as approve fiscal policies, financial reports and approved budgets.  An eight-county nonprofit corporation, this agency's programs include Head Start, daycare centers, youth programs and older adult programs.  Committees available within the Board of Trustees include Legislative, Finance, Personnel, Nominating and Program Liaisons.

Board Member sought for organization assisting people with disabilities to live the fullest possible life by providing individualized services in a variety of community settings.  Individual will be expected to provide policy guidance, promote organization to the public and assist in fundraising.  Volunter should have an understanding of policymaking roles within a business organization.  Committees available include Finance, Governance and Development.  On-the-job training for this position is provided.

Positions Available: 2

Two Board members, including one from the business community and one from the local area, are sought to conduct the business of the agency.  The Board also provides guidance for the programs and the Executive Director.  It is a working Board and therefore each member is expected to be a member of a committee.  Committees available include Development, Finance, Membership, Program and other committees set up as needed.  Volunteer should be a team worker with good thought processes, business connections, experience with grant writing and both an understanding of and a desire to serve an inner city community center.  Prospective Board members will be expected to attend three meetings, after which current Board members will determine if the prospective member is a good fit for the organization.  Additional expectations for Board members include attending regular and committee meetings, participating on a committee, supporting the agency financially, promoting the agency to others in the realization of its mission and attending at least one agency event per year.  Volunteer must also have familiarity with the agency's history, operations and aspirations.  The Board itself is responsible for providing strategic direction and overall governance, setting both Board and agency policy, identifying and assisting in securing funding sources, providing financial planning and management, monitoring the facility and programs and providing connections to the Inner-west, business and great Dayton communities.

New volunteer Advisory Boards are being formed, uniting leaders from all sectors of the community to promote the mission of a nonprofit organization that works to preserve sacred artwork and religious heritage.  Tasks for Board members include Board development and pulling together a group of volunteers interested in Catholic heritage preservation, identifying potential program needs and recipients and community-based fundraising.

Board Members needed to direct, advise and support the agency staff as part of a nine member board. Volunteers will serve as an advisor and resource person, provide direction for the future of the organization, serve as an officer and/or committee member and perform other duties as needed. Offices include President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Committees include Grants, Curriculum, Law, Services and Dispute Resolution. Volunteers must have previous experience working with or have knowledge of individuals, both adults and children, who have special needs.

Volunteer must have an understanding of financial statements and the budget process. Experience in any of the following areas is preferred: strategic planning, fundraising, committee leadership, long-range financial planning, personnel.  The role of the Board of Directors is one of governance and policy setting. It is also the Board's role to provide the vision for the organization. Under then governance model, the Board addresses only policies related to the ends to be achieved through the operations of the organization. With this in mind, each Board member should adhere to the following responsibilities:

  •  Regularly attend Board meetings, committee meetings and function such as special events.
  •  Assist the Baord in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities, such as reviewing the organization's financial statements.
  •  Make serious committment to participate actively in committee work and offer to take on special assignments.
  •  Be an active participant in the Board's annual evaluation and planning efforts.
  •  Participate in fundraising for the organization.
  •  Suggest possible nominees to the Board who can make significant contributions to the work of the Board and the organization.
  •  Be knowledgeable about the organization's operations and program delivery environment.
  •  Prepare for meetings and read all materials provided.
  •  Focus on important and long-range issues rather than small matters.
  •  Avoid micro-managing the organization. Take issues and concerns to the Board President and/or the Executive Director.
  •  Advocate for the organization in the community.
