United Way Honors Eight Companies with Pinnacle Awards

March 22, 2007, Dayton, OH – United Way of the Greater Dayton Area announced that eight companies earned the Pinnacle Award for their extraordinary support of the 2006 local United Way Campaign. These organizations have a long history of generosity, ran exceptional workplace campaigns that utilized best practices, and supported the community-wide fund drive through volunteer involvement, media sponsorships, in-kind donations, and special efforts such as retiree campaigns.

Under 100 Employees: Day International, Inc. and McGohan Brabender


Since 2004, 100% of the employees at Day International have participated in the United Way Campaign. Overall, their campaign was up 15%. McGohan Brabender had 100% employee participation for the first time in 2006. They achieved a 12% increase in giving.

100 to 499 Employees: Coldwell Banker Heritage Realtors, Mike-Sell’s Potato Chip Company, and Thompson Hine LLP

Coldwell Banker leads the real estate industry in leadership giving with 20 leadership givers. The campaign increased 13% in 2006. At Mike-Sell’s employee giving was up 12% and the company increased its corporate gift by 5%. Thompson Hine is a leader among law firms in leadership giving with 15 members of the United Way Leadership Circle, including one new member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society. This helped their campaign grow 17% in 2006.

500+ Employees: The Berry Company, Dayton Power & Light, and GE Money


The “Berry Extreme Community Makeover” which took 400 employees out of their offices to volunteer in the community for a full day helped The Berry Company achieve 92% employee participation and a 13% increase in giving. An exemplary partnership between management and organized labor at DP&L resulted in a 32% increase in employee giving. The campaign at GE Money increased 59% with the implementation of numerous best practices and the inclusion of special events proceeds in the corporate match.
