Mission Accomplished
Reach Out of Montgomery County has a challenging if not impossible mission – to provide access to health care services for the underserved/uninsured population of Montgomery County, without restraints, utilizing the professional skills of volunteer physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals.

One of their challenging cases involved Linda, a 53 year old, uninsured, divorcee.  Linda suffers from three chronic illnesses:  asthma, diabetes and hypertension.  In addition, she has a seizure disorder.  Like many others, Linda was struggling to afford   her medications and wanted to reduce her visits to the emergency room. She came to the Reach Out clinic seeking medical assistance for her primary care and prescription needs.

Reach Out of Montgomery County began to put together a team and formulate a plan.  As a United Way partner agency, Reach Out of Montgomery County has access to a tremendous network of services.  By collaborating with these partners, Linda’s treatment and prescription needs were quickly addressed.  With the services provided, Linda now has coordinated access to manage her chronic illnesses and improve her health and she receives her medications free.  Without this safety net and the funding of United Way, it is possible Linda’s health would be in serious jeopardy.

Fortunately, for Linda and many others like her, because of the generosity of United Way contributors, Reach Out of Montgomery County can say “mission accomplished.”
