Scholarships Help Local Families
There is no doubt about it; children will find ways to occupy their time.  Without proper supervision, however, that can sometimes lead to trouble.  That’s why after school programs are so important for positive youth development.

The following story represents several real examples of families helped recently at the YMCA of Greene County, rather than one actual family to respect and protect the privacy of those who receive scholarship assistance.

Jason’s mom recently started a second job to help make ends meet.  After school, Jason would come home to an empty apartment, if he came home at all.  His schoolwork and his attitude deteriorated.  Fortunately, a family friend suggested the YMCA to his mother.

“I’ve learned a lot more than just a cross-over dribble,” Jason said. “I hang out with good people and I feel good about myself.”  Then with a smile, he adds, “And so does my Mom.”

The YMCA of Greene County is dedicated to building strong children, strong families, and strong communities.  No one is denied membership or program participation based on the inability to pay.

The YMCA of Greene County is a Partner Agency of the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area.  The support received from United Way helps the YMCA offer scholarship assistance to families for childcare, memberships, and programs that they otherwise could not afford.
